Stephen Hawking Congratulates Eddie Redmanye On Oscar Win, Physicist Is 'Very Proud' Of 'The Theory Of Everything' Portrayal [PHOTO]

This past Sunday night, Eddie Redmayne won the Oscar Award for Best Actor due to his amazing performance as Stephen Hawking in "The Theory of Everything."  Hawking's story is compelling - he has suffered with ALS since the age of 21, but has overcome his debilitating disease and become one of the world's most renowned physicists.

According to TIME, Redmayne said during his acceptance speech, "I'm fully aware that I am a lucky, lucky man. This Oscar belongs to all of those people around the world battling ALS." Shortly after the Academy Awards, Hawking congratulated him on Facebook, stating, "Congratulations to Eddie Redmayne for winning an ‪#‎Oscar for playing me in The Theory of Everything Movie. Well done Eddie, I'm very proud of you. -SH" Now that's some high praise!

At just 33 years old, Redmayne's win is somewhat unusual, especially due to the fact that he didn't train as an actor. According to Telegraph, Redmayne studied art history at Cambridge. He started acting when his school drama teacher recommended him to the casting director of the Globe Theatre to play Viola in the 2002 production of Twelfth Night. He was 20 years old at the time.

Redmayne's mother said of her son's talent, "[He is] a performer and has been ever since he was five and he first started singing at school. I remember at his 21st birthday one of his friends gave a speech saying they were looking forward to seeing him at the Oscars."

However, playing Hawking was no easy role, and Redmayne excelled at it. He did a lot of background research, studying film footage of Hawking and working with a choreographer in order to perfect his physical performance. Given how well he played his role in "The Theory of Everything," there are already rumors going around that he may win Best Actor again next year!

He is currently working on a film called "The Danish Girl," which is scheduled to debut in 2016. Redmayne will be playing the role of painter Einar Wegener, who in 1930 became one of the first people to undergo sexual reassignment. Are you excited to see Redmayne back on the big screen?
