Ten Highlights of MAMA 2012 by Kpopstarz

slide 2 of 6

The holidays are just around the corner and people have a knack of making lists now, right? Well, we attempted to make our very own list of highlights from the MAMA 2012. This was probably the most challenging assignment for us. We completed the list, but would like to warn everyone that it comes in no particular order. This is the comprehensive list of MAMA 2012 highlights created by Kpopstarz.

Seo In Young's "Anymore" Performance

The former Jewelry member blew the crowd away with her solo performance. Seo In Young appeared on stage wearing a lacy black corset with matching stockings. Her performance included one of the sexiest moments of MAMA 2012.

K.Will Joins B.o.B for "Nothin' On You"

Just when one may think Bruno Mars can be the only one singing to the chorus of the hit song, "Nothin' On You", K.Will personalize it with his own vibe. Both K.Will and B.o.B asked the audience to participate and created a party-like environment.

Jackie Chan Takes A Moment to Give A Shout Out to Psy

Right before the martial arts superstar presented the Artist of the Year award with actress Han Ye Seul, Jackie Chan acknowledged Psy and his success with "Gangnam Style". While taking a moment to praise the worldwide phenomenon, Psy bowed to Jackie Chan as a sign of gratitude after being surprised at the recognition. From Jackie Chan's speech about Psy and "Gangnam Style," it was clearly apparent that he was a huge fan.

One Huge Inflatable Psy and Dozens (or hundreds) of Yoo Jae Suk Look Alike

Another performance we can't leave out is when Psy heated up the MAMAs with his performance of his song "Gangnam Style." We've seen the hundreds of Psys dancing in the background at the EMAs, but at the 2012 MAMAs, it was not a bunch of guys dressed in the blue blazers, but guys dressed as Yoo Jae Suk wearing yellow suits, bowl-cut wigs, and sunglasses. It doesn't end there: a ginormous inflatable Psy dominated the stage right behind them. Even the inflatable Psy did the horse dance.

G-Dragon Doesn't Get The "Crayon", the Other Members Do

All members of Big Bang except the leader G-Dragon recreated the song "Crayon" with their unique vocals and charismatic rapping skills. T.O.P rapped with his dreamy deep voice while Daesung's singing added a little rock and Taeyang added more attitude. Seungri, the youngest member of Big Bang, let loose with his charismatic dance moves. It was great to see the whole group perform a member's solo track. It makes fans wonder how other groups would do their own member's solo tracks. Regardless, Big Bang was first to do it.

Epik High Never Leaves the Dark Side

Throughout the whole show, Epik High never ditched their outfits as Joker, Bane and Two-Face. Although we couldn't see their faces, it was pretty cool of them to keep it on and celebrate the night away in their villainous counterparts.

Song Joong Ki Sings

Well, everyone knew Song Joong Ki would be an MC and a presenter, but could anyone predict that he would actually do an opening number? Well, we for one definitely didn't. Song Joong Ki's rendition of "A Better Tomorrow" was awesome, and it made everyone wonder what other surprises are in store for the night.

G-Dragon Appears Early in the Game

Apart from Song Joong Ki singing, everyone anticipated that Big Bang would be one of the later performances given their nominations for the bigger categories. As to our surprise, G-Dragon appeared early in the game. First, he performed an a-cappella version of "Crayon" which was followed by his introduction of Ailee's opening number. Raise your hand if you thought he was going to be MCing the entire night. We surely thought this was the case, and was mildly disappointed after he went backstage with his members after receiving their "group" award all by his lonesome.

Troublemaker Shows The Trouble They Could Make Again

You know 2012 flew by fast when it feels likes "Troublemaker" by HyunA and BEAST's Hyunseung came out a long time ago. When the son was originally released, it was an instant hit with the catchy rhythm and lyrics, not to mention the unbelievably sexy choreography. HyunA and Hyunseung stirred the MAMAs as they did a reprise of their popular song, and boy did they not disappoint. Even though all their dance moves were appropriate for prime-time broadcasting, they were incredible sexy and provocative.

SHINee and EXO Dance Battle

It felt as though all of SM Entertainment artists were on stage. Then, we were quickly reminded that these were the younger set of dance groups. SHINee and EXO performed to TVXQ's "Mirotic." The battle was so intense; we could flip tables at the site. Also, unified EXO dared to give SHINee a good run for their money as they faced off with "Lucifer". It was a thrill to see the younger generation of SM Entertainment compete with each other. They all did a wonderful job representing their company at MAMA 2012.
