Review: Shinhwa Return To The Spotlight With A Forceful New Sound On The Surrealistic 'Sniper' From Their 12th Album 'We' [AUDIO]

Shinhwa have experimented with a number of musical genres in their 17 years as a band, the longest run of any other K-pop act still around.

That is why it is exciting to hear the six-member South Korean group taking more musical chances than than ever on their daring new single "Target," released on Thursday.

With the combination of the bumping back of a dance beat bordering on dubstep without the break, a whistled melody reminiscent of classic Korean film scores of the 1970s and some falsetto recalling Justin Timberlake's most soulful solo moments, "Target" could be Shinhwa's most sonically daring offering to date.

There are also nods to the modern K-pop landscape, particularly the more gothic, heavy dance sound embraced by chart-toppers like EXO and BEAST.

But throughout it all, veteran producer and songwriter Andrew Jackson, responsible for past Shinhwa hits "Venus" and "This Love," grinds the rhythm and synth sound into dance floor gold.

"Target," the debut single track off of "We" the group's 12th full-length new album, is clear proof that Shinhwa still has something to say musically.

No one here has any reason to show off. One by one, each of the group's six members delivers a performance demonstrating the kind of artistry that comes from spending the better part of two decades as a band.

It is impossible to predict what the ultimate level of chart success "Target" or "We" But this much is certain-Shinhwa have shown the world that they can weather the extremely volatile pop world all while continuing to innovate, maintaining their dignity and still appearing to love their job.

After 17 years, how many big time bands can still say that?
