CL Of 2NE1 Hopes To 'Break The Asian Female Stereotype'
Billboard revealed five memorable performances by 2NE1’s leader CL to celebrate her birthday.
“The K-Pop star is 24 today, moving into what might be her most exciting year of life yet,” wrote K-Pop columnist Jeff Benjamin in an article posted on Billboard on Thursday.
She has become an important figure in the K-Pop industry as she continuously knocks down barriers for K-Pop’s expansion.
“I have this side of me that people didn’t meet in 2NE1,” said 2NE1's leader CL in and article posted by Billboard on Thursday. “I want to represent Asian women. I want to break that typical Asian female stereotype.”
Benjamin then listed five memorable performances by CL that have helped shape who she is today.
At number one was “MTBD/Revolution/Dirty Vibe” with Diplo in 2014.
Number two was “Marvin’s Room/Did It On ‘Em/The Leaders” in 2011.
Number three was “The Baddest Female/MTBD” during 2NE1’s All or Nothing Asia tour last year.
Number four was “Intro” with 2NE1 in 2012.
Lastly, was “Bad Girls/The Baddest Female” joint stage with Lee Hyori.
CL also revealed her hope to break the stereotype and bring out a bit of ‘bad’ in all Asian girls.
“There’s this standard where they’re all calm,” she said. “I want to break that. I want to tell the world that there are some badass Asian female girls.”
