'Battle Creek' Premiers To Low Ratings And Mixed Reviews On CBS [PHOTO]

"Battle Creek" premiered on CBS last night and the first reviews for the Vince Gilligan created cop drama are beginning to come in. The show had less than ideal ratings and has received mixed reviews.

Most of the reviews focused on the fact that this is yet another police procedural from CBS, which already has several. Headline Planet reports that the premiere had 7.81 million viewers making it the lowest rated CBS's Sunday night lineup.

The show focuses on Russ Agnew, a star member of the desperately underfunded Battle Creek police department. His life is turned upside down when FBI agent Milt Chamberlain is assigned to the town for mysterious reasons. Agnew is a cynical, small town, realist and Milt is positive, big town, idealist. The two immediately clash.

After the introductions are through the case of the week is a double homicide. Russ is immediately shut down when Milt is able to find out who the victims were, using high tech gadgets. Throughout the rest of the episode, Milt seems to be on-upping Russ at every turn, from having judges on speed dial to having access to the NSA phone records. The case seems to be drug related and the two chase down the usual chain of buyers and suppliers.

Russ is feeling defeated and is about to give up on the case when a co-worker gave him a much needed pep talk. Russ cracks the case when they find a gun. Milt wants to run it through forensics but Russ realizes the gun was covered in anchovies. The pizza boy they thought was the witness turned out to be the killer. He was avenging his sister who was overdosed.

Russ and Milt burst in just as the pizza boy is about to kill the supplier's supplier. The two make opposite arguments, Milt appeals to the perp's better nature, while Russ threatens to shoot him if he does not stand down. Finally he does. At the press conference, Milt made sure that the credit will be given to Russ.

TV Guide released a synopsis for next week's episode titled "Syruptitous." Milt and Russ go undercover as distillers to solve the murder of someone drowned in syrup. Meanwhile, Font wages his own personal war against his medical marijuana dispensary.
