Max Aaron To Take On Phillip Mills' 'Black Swan' 4 Years After Ashley Wagner's

If there have been complaints about former national figure skating champion Max Aaron's programs this season, perhaps the solution will lies with choreographer Phillip Mills.

Known as "the definitive source of [figure] skating information," The Skating Lesson broke the news on Twitter that Max Aaron would be skating a new long program to "Black Swan" choreographed by Phillip Mills.

The immediate reactions to this news largely centered on Ashley Wagner, who famously skated to the "Black Swan" during her breakout 2011-2012 season, also choreographed by Mills. Before that, Mills also choreographed to "Song of the Black Swan" for Michelle Kwan.

"I hope he doesn't change a bit in that step sequence or Mills will lose his mind like he did with Ashley," commented Glenn Price on Twitter.

Mills' last association with Wagner was mired in controversy when the pair went their separate ways shortly after the 2011-2012 season.

"We each had a different focus for the upcoming Olympic season," wrote Mills in a statement posted to Twitter.

"I believe that each choreographer's program is a work of art that needs to be kept in its original form. I wouldn't want anyone to change my art and I just would not make changes to someone else's work."

Wagner later explained her side of things during an interview with The Skating Lesson, stating that she wanted to work with other choreographers, and Mills did not want to coach another choreographer's program.

After being third during the 2014 national championships and failing to earn a spot to the Olympic team, Max Aaron's current season has seen mixed results, medaling at a Grand Prix event but placing fourth at this year's national championships.
