INFINITE, Akdong Musician And Lee Seung Hwan Win Big At Korean Music Awards [RECAP]

K-pop fans have spoken and voted in Lee Seung Hwan, INFINITE and Akdong Musician as the winners of the 12th Korean Music Awards.

Lee Seung Hwan took home the biggest distinction of the night as the Artist of the Year, a commemorative award for the pop singer and rocker's previous success and perceived contribution to developing Korean pop culture to what it is today. He has released more than 15 albums; sold over 10 million records, including singles; and held more than 100 solo concerts.

INFINITE was crowned the best group of the year, capping off a pretty phenomenal 2014 during which the group held their One Great Step world tour across 15 countries, and released The Origin instrumental album as well as their second studio album Season 2. The track "Last Romeo" from the latter album saw the band clinch their first Billboard No. 1 and gaining increased prominence overseas.

Jay Park won best solo male while HA:TFELT as best solo female.

Meanwhile, SISTAR member Soyu & Junggigo's smash hit "Some" won Best Pop Song.

Best Pop Album went to the sensational sibling duo and rookie YG artist Akdong Musician. Their debut album Play - their first after winning the K-pop Star 2 singing competition and joining the agency - was a critical and commercial darling.

Netizens felt the duo's win was deserved and encouraged them to continue putting out great music. "Congratulations Akdong Musician", "Hoping for a comeback soon" and "They surely have a long career ahead of them - singer/songwriters to boot" were several of the top comments to their win.

Other notable awardees include Zion.T whose "Crush On You" track won Best R&B and Soul Song, indie rock band 9 and the Numbers for Best Modern Rock Song and rapper Hwaji for Best Rap and Hip-hop Album.
