The Secret of NIMH Remake Brings Back Mrs. Frisby And The Rats; MGM Announces Franchise Based On Animated Classic

The Secret of NIMH Movie Remake: MGM announced they will produce a  new film version of The Secret of NIMH. Mrs. Brisby and the Rats of NIMH from Don Bluth's classic animated film The Secret of NIMH will return as a movie series. The Secret of NIMN films are being planned as a live-action/CGI hybrid.

The Secret of NIMH was based on the book Mrs. Frisby and the Rats of NIMH by Robert C. O'Brien. The first film adaptation didn't adhere to the source material, but MGM, who secured the rights to the book, plans to adapt it into a new series of films, according to Screen Crush.

The new Secret of NIMH films be written by Michael Berg, who wrote "Ice Age 5." It will be produced by Daniel Bobker and Ehren Kruger, from the Transformers and Lord of The Ring franchises. Kruger is also scheduled to write a mini-series based on Stephen King's book, The Talisman.

Don Bluth's The Secret of NIMH is one of those classic animated movies that gave some sensitive children of the '80s nightmares. Based on the also kinda bleak children's book by Robert C. O'Brien, Mrs. Brisby and the Rats of NIMH, the film version might be the high point of Don Bluth's impressive animated output. It's worth a look if you haven't seen it.

Robert C. O'Brien' children's classic, Mrs. Frisby and the Rats of NIMH was published in 1971 with illustrations by Zena Bernstein. The book follows the widowed field mouse Mrs. Frisby.

O'Brien wrote a sequel called Racso and the Rats of NIMH, which was published in 1986. A third book, R-T, Margaret, and the Rats of NIMH, was written by O'Brien's daughter, Jane Leslie Conly in 1990.
