'The Vampire Diaries' Season 6 Spoilers: Ian Somerhalder Says 'Stefan Makes A Very, Very, Tough Decision' In Upcoming Episode

After a one week hiatus, "The Vampire Diaries" fans may be antsy to see the aftermath of Caroline's choice to shut off her humanity after her mother's death and kissing Stefan.

So far it's looking like the aftermath is going to be difficult.

Recently, actor (in the role of Damon) turned director Ian Somerhalder talked to Entertainment Weekly about the episode of "The Vampire Diaries" that will air this Thursday. Although he didn't reveal any specifics, he did insist that Stefan (played by actor Paul Wesley) will be forced into an extremely difficult decision.

"Stefan makes a very, very tough decision that changes everything for him for quite a while," teased Somerhalder.

The tough decision in question likely has something to do with Caroline (played by Candice Accola) who at the end of the previous episode decided that she'd turn off her humanity switch to deal with the grief of losing her mother, and potentially, her supposed rejection by Stefan.

Previous synopses released for the episode points to Caroline causing a good amount of chaos for Stefan and Elena (played by Nina Dobrev). Entertainment Weekly believes that the chaos could potentially lead Stefan to returning to his own "ripper" personality. Somerhalder did not confirm this theory, but did promise Stefan would change by the end of the episode.

"Stefan goes through a pretty intense transformation," explained Somerhalder.

Whatever the case may be, fans will have a few days to wait before finding out the fate of Stefan, Caroline, and Elena in "The Vampire Diaries." Episode 16 entitled "The Downward Spiral" will air on the CW on March 12. This episode will again be the directorial debut of actor Ian Somerhalder.
