2 Million Views And Counting, Red Velvet's 'Ice Cream Cake' Comeback Draws A Lot Of Attention

March 14 and 15 brought two new music videos from Red Velvet, and a storm of love from fans around the globe followed.

Red Velvet, SM Entertainment's newest girl group, debuted in 2014 with "Happiness" and made initial waves but the group's follow up track "Be Natural" didn't launch the quartet to major success. In March, Red Velvet made a comeback as a quintet with the addition of Yeri, and quickly topped several Korean music charts.

With a chart-topping song and two music videos that garnered over 3 million combined views in less than three days, Red Velvet is living up to the popularity that is expected of SM Entertainment groups.

The dueling concepts of the sweet and modern "Ice Cream Cake" countered with the mature and retro "Automatic" are the sources of Red Velvet's success, as fans around the world find the two songs and music videos addicting.

"Ice Cream Cake" was watched over 2 million times within 48 hours of being uploaded to YouTube on March 15, while "Automatic" lagged behind a bit, but not too much. "Automatic" was viewed over 1.7 million times since March 14.

Shortly after being released, Red Velvet's "Ice Cream Cake" achieved the second spot on Genie's Top 100 Real Time Chart, and the second spot on multiple charts, including Naver, Daum, and MelOn.

In comparison, the lackluster 2014 comeback "Be Natural" didn't reach the top 25 spots in Korean music charts.

On YouTube, viewers showed apprehension to the new member and swet style, but overall appreciation for Red Velvet's "Ice Cream Cake."

"I didn't care much for Red Velvet but after this, I think I'll definitely keep an eye on these girls," said YouTube user JMMPP. "Well done. I have absolutely nothing negative to say about this comeback, quite the contrary. I am quite pleasantly surprised. Well done."
