Seoul Police Deny Girl Group Member's Involvement In Recent Car Accident

No girl group member was in a car that caused a multi-vehicle accident in Seoul on March 22, despite initial reports.

On March 24, MyDaily reported that the police had clarified that no K-pop idol was involved in an accident that led to a five car accident in Seoul. Korean news had initially reported that a Korean girl group member was a passenger, allegedly the girlfriend, of the reportedly intoxicated driver who had caused the accident.

A representative of Seoul Police denied these claims, stating that the news was misreported.

"She is a non-celebrity, not a girl group member," stated the rep.

The police explained that initial reports from the scene were misreported by witnesses.

"She must've been pretty because someone thought she was a girl group member and caused the misreport."

Witnesses had originally claimed to spot a female idol on the scene of the accident.

"[She] had abrasions on her forehead and elbow, and was sent to the hospital," said a witness. "While the agency will probably deny it, she was lowering her face when the cameras came out to record."

Channel A news aired a news report showing a blurred image of SPICA member Yang Jiwon, leading to the idol responding to the rumors on Twitter.

"It was not me so don't worry and trust in me," wrote Jiwon a few hours after the accident. "I hope that those who were involved in the accident weren't hurt too much."

The March 22 accident was caused by a 30-year-old driver of an Audi A8, who collided with a taxi cab, according to eyewitness account. The driver had a reported alcohol level of .106%.

In South Korea, it is illegal to drive with over .05% alcohol level, according to the United States Forces Korea website.
