Upcoming Web Drama 'My Superstar Jidan' Names WINNER's Taehyun As Lead

WINNER member Taehyun has snagged his first gig as an actor, and a leading one at that. The idol will take on the role of a movie actor playboy - the type that has fan girls screaming and gushing around him - in the upcoming web drama My Superstar Jidan.

Filming has commenced, reports Koreaboo, with Taehyun participating in the first day on set.

The drama is looking to air sometime in early May on MBC Every1, according to Soompi, and could end up being titled Midnight's Girl upon broadcast release instead of the My Superstar Jidan working title. His superstar character will be named Gong Ji Dan, reports Allkpop.

This is good news for WINNER fans since they will soon see at least one of the members on a regular basis. After finishing their successful Korea-China-Japan worldwide concert tour earlier this year which saw the group meet a whopping 31,500 of their fans, WINNER was scheduled to have a comeback after Big Bang returns with new music in April, but Big Bang's comeback date has since been denied. It is also not clear whether the upcoming YG Entertainment boy group iKON will make their comeback after Big Bang and before WINNER, so the latter group could end up returning later in the year.

Taehyun is riding on a growing trend of idols starring in web dramas In YG Entertainment alone, Taehyun will be sharing the web drama acting spotlight with 2NE1 member Dara, who will play her first-ever leading lady role for the Chinese-Korean web drama Dr. Ian with the first episode airing on March 29.
