Kerry Washington went to great lengths to hide her baby's due date - her methods were so sneaky, we're sure she got some inspiration from her "Scandal" character Olivia Pope.

The fabulous Kerry Washington, who is married to NFL player Nnamdi Asomugha, gave birth to her first child, daughter Isabelle, in April. While covering Net-A-Porter.com's The EDIT this month, Kerry sat down to talk to the publication and relieved that her dedication to "Scandal" - and hiding her baby's due date last spring - meant that she had to go to pretend that she wasn't going into labor while an episode was airing on ABC.

"Every Thursday within three weeks of my [daughter Isabelle's] due date, I loaded up pre-tweets based on the episodes and what I would want to say. I tweeted in the very early stages of my labor. I figured that if I went completely silent on social media, then people would know I was in the hospital!" she said, according to E! News.

Now that's one hard-working mama! Live-tweeting a "Scandal" episode to trick fans into thinking you're not currently giving birth is a very covert move, something that Olivia Pope would do!

"Scandal" is one of ABC's biggest hits, and it will likely return for season 5.

Washington hopes her character Olivia stands for something substantial.

"I hope people remember her as a complicated, fully realized human being; she's not a stereotype and she's not an accessory. I think that it's important for women to know, in film and in TV and in life, that you can be the lead of your own story. I hope she's remembered for that: as somebody who is the driving force of her own life," she said.

Just two months after giving birth, Kerry Washington hit the red carpet for the first time at the Women In Film 2014 Crystal + Lucy Awards in early June.

"I was anxious about being on the carpet," Kerry Washington told E! News at the time.

"It's a little crazy," the "Scandal" actress added. "Yesterday was like my first time being back in the game and I was so nervous. It was like the first day of school nervous. But I missed our gladiators and all the social media and you guys and all the photographers."

"I was away for good reasons," she added.

Washington's friend and legendary actress Diahann Carroll also revealed that this is everything Kerry wanted.

"You could smell that she wanted this whole life-the baby, the husband, the in-laws [and] the house," Carroll said.
