Kevin Smith Confirms Jeremy London, Jason Lee And Shannen Doherty For 'Mallrats 2'

Director Kevin Smith confirms that Jeremy London and Jason Lee would reprise their roles in "Mallrats 2."

Earlier this month, "Clerks" director Kevin Smith announced that he was working on the script of "Mallrats 2," with plans of starting production in May next year.

"It's half a script right now, and we're pulling our loot together," Smith said in a radio interview with KFMA (via THR). "I had a cool idea and a bunch of investors that were like, 'Do it,' so here we are."

He also explained why he wanted to do a sequel even though "nobody's clamoring" for one.

"Lately I've been doing this thing where I'm like, 'Do you want to do what's good for your career, or do you just want to have fun?'"

Most recently, he confirmed via his Facebook that Jason Lee and Jeremy London would be reprising their old roles.

London starred in the original film as T.S. Quint, one of the main characters whose plan was to propose to his girlfriend Brandi (played by Claire Forlani) at Universal Studios only to find out that she's put herself up for grabs in her father's game show "Truth or Date."

Lee plays Brodie Bruce, a videogame obsessed comic book junkie who helps London's character in winning back his girlfriend.

Shannen Doherty, Ethan Suplee, Jason Mewes, Michael Rooker, have all been confirmed reprising their roles. Legendary comic book creator Stan Lee, who made a cameo appearance in the original film, will appear in the sequel as well.

Smith recently hinted about where some of the characters might pick-up.

"After the events of 'Mallrats,' Brodie Bruce and his longtime love Rene were married. The comic book-loving proprietor of Brodie Bruce's Secret Stash insisted on naming their only child Banner Bruce. #RatsFacts."

"Mallrats," released in 1995, became a smash-hit grossing $2.1 million at the box office.
