K-Pop Review: Girls' Generation(SNSD) - I Got A Boy

SM Entertainment is making it clear that they start the year with something very new on their list of resolutions, huh?

The last time we saw or heard our girls release was roughly a year and a half ago (not really counting sub-unit: TaeTiSeo, I mean all of our nine beautiful women). With Japan promotions, SMTown Tours, individual projects, the girls are back with full force and I absolutely love every single part of this comeback.

The first few teasers' release date cause a stir when it was said to be "The End of the World" or "The End of the Mayan Calender," when in doubt SM Entertainment were being giant jokesters to the public. Seeing at the opportunity, the notorious company decided to release an old music video that was kept up during the girl's "Gee" era, which was "Dancing Queen" days later.

Now let's get this straight, "Dancing Queen," was meant to help promote the real comeback. Since the company didn't want to waste the footage they decided to alter some of the new music video in the beginning and at the end. Thus giving something to the fans and making the hype even stronger. It's a cunning tactic.

Now it's 2013 and Girls' Generation is full with color, power and (can you believe it?) swagger in their arsenal.

The music video "I Got A Boy" was released: December 31, 2012 and the view count hit over millions so quickly. Let me give a round of applause to the girls.

We're good? Ok back to the review.

The song itself is very hodgepodge with many tempos, drops beats and genres but as surprising; I say it works. If I can describe this song and video, I would say: Hyper Pop. To be very honest (scout's honor) - I was very nervous on the comeback since I didn't like "The Boys" that much and was scared on the concept. It's so different to see this makeover, yet it's worked for the best.

Quick message to the other comebacks: Prepare to see pearl pink my friends. Girls' Generation is taking over this half of the year and the year hasn't even started yet!

To the actual drama version, I'm not impressed but since its SM Entertainment, I'm not surprised that there isn't much of a plot. It gets as straight forward as it gets. The girls have a boy and they want to show him off to the world. Yet at the end of the video, Hyoyeon wasn't happy that the main guy came later. Yeah~ you show him, girl~.

The dance of this song, I don't even know where to begin. All I want to say to the choreographers, NappyTabs, you murdered this.(I'm a fan of NappyTabs from "So You Think You Can Dance.") I'm so happy that this dance brought so much groove and hips (1:01) for the girls and I can't wait to learn (and look awkward in the process). The main (1:40) is what got me hooked when the beats became faster and super charged, the actual waving is a very big contrast from what I've seen from past eras.  As well with the nice executed transitions and visuals (2:53). This is K-Pop choreography at it's finest. I can smell the award coming their way at the award shows for 2013.

Ok, I'm getting way~ ahead of myself.

Overall great comeback girls, SM Entertainment. Look forward to their music show comebacks. Support them buy buying their albums.

Happy New Year!
