'The Mindy Project' Season 4 Cancelled For Low Ratings? Mindy Kaling Says ‘I Would Love For It To Just Continue’

"The Mindy Project" season 4 cancelled or renewed? The "The Mindy Project" season 3 finale, "Best Man" pulled in only 2.1 million viewers and a 0.8 rating. Will there be a "The Mindy Project" season 4?

Bustle magazine reported that "The Mindy Project" is facing cancellation over low ratings. Creator Mindy Kaling, who first came to prominence on "The Office," still believes the show will be renewed.

E! News reported that "The Mindy Project" has a 50/50 chance for a season 4.

"I'm so proud of the show," Mindy told Bustle. "There's nothing really that I would do differently in the way that we've built the those in the last couple of years, and I love our relationship with Fox and I would love for it to just continue."

The Mindy Project may still get a streaming deal.

"I just don't think this is the end for the cast. I feel me and the writers have so many stories to tell, and I just have a good feeling that it's going to come back," Kaling told EW's Jessica Shaw and Melissa Maerz on SiriusXM Radio.

Kaling said "The Mindy Project" Season 4 will focus on Danny (Chris Messina) and Mindy's relationship if the show is picked up.

"Danny as a father is really something to think about writing-I love that. And Mindy on maternity leave, Mindy on the playground with other moms. There's so many things! And I feel like the way we see it portrayed on TV-to have it be funny and not have it be tragic-I'm really excited," Kaling told SiriusXM.

"The show's so much about the romantic sensibility and reality versus fantasy, and I feel the show is at its very best is when [Mindy's] being tested but still manages to keep her funny disposition and romantic sensibility," Kaling recently told The Hollywood Reporter.

"Danny's this very cynical guy who has lost that, but it has been reignited a bit through her, and that's an interesting journey to watch. In the last five minutes and two acts of this finale, she has changed so much to be with this guy; she's met his family and done all of these things, but she refuses to lose this general optimism. She believes in marriage, and she believes in this institution - which a lot of people today would say is very old-fashioned - but she doesn't care; she still believes in it. Personally, Mindy Kaling falls more in line with Danny Castellano's beliefs than Mindy Lahiri's; this is one of those times as a writer where I just identify with him more," she continued. "They're so good together in so many ways, but in this one fundamental way they're not."
