Editor's Pick: Solid Rock Riffing Over Ethereally Powerful Vocals Makes miss A's 'I Caught Ya' The Climax Of The 'Colors' Album [AUDIO]

One of the most hard-hitting rock songs to come out of South Korea so far in 2015 didn't come from the act you might expect to wear that crown.

"I Caught Ya" from the album "Colors," released on Monday by the four-member K-pop girl group miss A, has hard rocking guitar riffs, an inventive mixture of sequenced and live drums and a sound that's steeped in the blues.

These are words I don't often get to use in a K-pop review.

With a daring willingness to throw out the Hallyu rulebook seemingly employed by a majority of artists, songwriter and producers in the genre, miss A showed us all that when it comes to putting together a few minutes of music that makes you want to move, there are no laws.

From the excellent unison guitar and basslines employs throughout "I Caught Ya" to the vocal delivery that while every bit as powerful as you could want, maintains a cool detachment that keeps the sound from getting too cluttered, the unexpected choices on this miss A track are what makes it great.

The entire "Colors" EP has a sound that is consistently searching for something different and unique, an exciting trait in a new act especially.

From Stevie Wonder to Michael Jackson to Kendrick Lamar, the most important names in pop music are often the ones who refuse to stick to one particular sound or style, the ones who refuse to play by the rules. These are the names that end up standing the test of time.

There's no denying miss A have a long climb before achieving that kind of legendary status, but if they keep taking this daring approach to their music, it will be a long time before they are forgotten, both in Korea and beyond.
