f(x) Rapper Amber Lui Discusses The 'Beautiful' Message Behind Her Recent Solo Album With Billboard

f(x) member Amber Lui sat down with Billboard's Jeff Benjamin for an insightful interview on her new solo album, Beautiful, which peaked at No. 2 on the Billboard World Albums chart.

Amber shared that her intended message with Beautiful was to give fans an honest window to her life, identity and belief that she was beautiful in spite outside influence or opinion.

The rapper also hoped that those who would listen to her solo music would come to believe that they themselves were beautiful in their special way.

"My goal was to give people a better picture of who I was and who I am," Amber told Billboard. "'Beautiful' was something that I kept really close to my heart, that I kept from a lot of people for years and years. It's my story. And I think that was the first impression I needed to give to people as a solo artist. This is who I am; this is what I'm about."

"I haven't said this yet, but my goal for this Beautiful album is not to say, 'I'm beautiful' or 'OK, I'm so cool.' This is, honestly, an album written for the listeners," she adds. "That's what my definition of music is, as an artist. I want to share that message. I'm not just saying 'OK, you're beautiful just because you're beautiful.' I really, deeply, sincerely mean you are beautiful the way you are."

Amber also expressed excitement for the possibility of a solo debut for "Shake That Brass" collaborator and Girls' Generation leader, Taeyeon.

"I think she's so talented," Amber said. "I think she's going to put out something really awesome. I hope she lets me feature on her stuff."
