'Masters Of Sex' Season 3 Spoilers: Hugh Hefner Character Confirmed For Appearance

"Mad Men" may be coming to an end, but there's still plenty of 1960s exploration to happen on television.

This is especially good for those who wished The Sexual Revolution played a bigger role.

"Masters of Sex" season three is confirmed for release later this year. A new spoiler about the upcoming episodes was revealed this week. According to a report from TV Line, a staple figure of the 1960s Sexual Revolution will appear in the new season. Although no actor is cast in the role yet, Hugh Hefner is confirmed to make an appearance in "Masters of Sex" next season.

"When the Showtime drama flashes forward to the mid-1960s, it will introduce a real master of sex - Hugh Hefner, no less. And, since the casting call for the potentially recurring role notes that, in addition to being an smooth operator and gifted schmoozer, the Playboy publisher is 40 during this period," explained TV Line's Michael Ausiello.

As to what Hugh Hefner will be doing in relation to Masters and Johnson, it will likely be in relation to the pop culture explosion of their study. Given Masters' (played by Michael Sheen) discomfort with interviews and people, perhaps a scene of him and Johnson visiting the Playboy mansion would play well on screen.

"Masters of Sex" season three is set to premiere July 12. Showtime provides the following description of the series:

"MASTERS OF SEX is a one-hour drama starring Emmy® and BAFTA Award nominee Michael Sheen and acclaimed actress Lizzy Caplan, who will portray the real-life pioneers of the science of human sexuality, William Masters and Virginia Johnson.

The series chronicles the unusual lives, romance, and pop culture trajectory of Masters and Johnson. Their research touched off the sexual revolution and took them from a midwestern teaching hospital in St. Louis to the cover of Time magazine and nearly a dozen appearances on Johnny Carson's couch."
