What Does Yang Hyun Suk, Head of YG Entertainment, Think on New Sensation Led by 'Infinite Challenge' in K-Pop?

In the begining of 2013, very interesting issue has risen in K-Pop music industry after MBC program "Infinite Challenge" released an album.

Recently, the episode of Park Myung Soo's songs gained attention as Jung Hyung Don's song ranked number 1 on the charts.

Having a show program release an album and do well on the charts is not a situation that K-Pop artists used to face. Insutry relators may have felt that their spot is being or can be taken by a show program regardless of their efforts and investments that they have put in their music since this song has beaten even Girls' Generation's new single 'I God a Boy.'

But It seems like the industry wants to point out the fact that the channel for doing more than just a tv show. Broadcasting company has a power to use popular celebrities and singers who need more promotions through media. They have enough power even to use these top stars to go overseas and expand their program. But now, they are puting their influence in the music industry with this power by taking on new businsses beyond making a fun tv program which really effects the artists in turn.

An official commented, "It is hard for them to make an aggressive appeal on the broadcast company because it is true that these types of shows deserve the fame that they receive. It just means that the music industry needs to work harder. However, it just seems that people have become a bit agitated in the fact that their recent album has made a great hit when they used to only release one album per year."

On this new sensation arisng in K-Pop, Yang Hyun Suk, head of YG Entertainment, leading entertainment company, stated that "popular contents are being chosen and decided by the public. This era is not a time when power of media and entertainment company can have a full control. Rather we really need to look back why more than 60 rookie groups were not succesful and loved by the public last year."

He continued, "Singers are appearing on dramas. Why not for comedians making albums? As how movie has many different genre, there should be diverse of music inside of K-Pop."
