Kim Kardashian And Lena Dunham Featured On Variety's 2015 Power Of Women Issue; Celebrities Recognized For Charities Children’s Hospital Los Angeles And GEMS

Kim Kardashian and Lena Dunham were among those featured on Variety's 2015 Power Of Women issue. According to a report from E!Online, the two were recognized for help that they have extended to their respective charities, such as Children's Hospital Los Angeles and GEMS.

Aside from Kim Kardashian and Lena Dunham, other stars featured in Variety's 2015 Power of Women issue include "The View" host Whoopi Goldberg, actress Rachel Weisz and Hollywood veteran Glenn Close.

A related report also explained why Kim Kardashian was included in the said feature. The popular reality star and wife of rapper Kanye West reportedly helps the patients at Children's Hospital Los Angeles.

"Sometimes they'll just sit and talk. Sometimes they'll paint each other's nails," Variety deputy awards and features editor Jenelle Riley told Entertainment Tonight.

"And they love taking selfies with her. She has a very personal connection to it."

Kim Kardashian's motivation to help the said children's hospital is reportedly because of how she lost her father, Robert Kardashian, when she was still young.

"She lost her father to cancer. She recently donated all of her gifts from her baby shower to a hospital in Chicago, which is where Kanye grew up," an insider said.

Aside from Kim Kardashian, Lena Dunham is another personality featured in Variety's 2015 Power of Women feature. The actress has done a lot of philanthropic works.

According to a report from Marie Claire Australia, the creator of the hit TV series "Girls" helps a lot with GEMS (Girls Educational & Mentoring Services). The group is a nonprofit organization aimed at helping victims of commercial sexual exploitation in New York.

A sexual assault survivor herself, Lena Dunham said she is motivated to help others who experienced the same ordeal that she eventually recovered from.

"What attracted me so much to the cause is that I'm a feminist and I'm a sexual assault survivor," she said.

"I felt that it was important to me to not just call attention to the circumstances (around) which I was assaulted on a college campus, but also to call attention to sexual-abuse survivors who have far less of a public voice."
