The Rajon Rondo era for the Dallas Mavericks is finally over. Although short lived, coach Rick Carlisle and Mark Cuban said they don't have any regret in acquiring the point guard and the risk was worth taking.

According to ESPN Dallas.com's Tim MacMahon, coach Rick Carlisle feels that the Rajon Rondo acquisition is "a risk worth taking."

Rondo's stint with the Dallas Mavericks was decided during game their playoff series against the Houston Rockets. After a lackluster game 1, the team announced that Rondo will be shelved to treat his recurring back injury. He managed to play a subpar 10 minutes filled with turnovers and lazy defense in game 2 which resulted to a loss as well. After that game, coach Carlisle said he believes Rajon Rondo will not be returning as a Dallas Maverick and will be let go since he is  an unrestricted  free agent.

Earlier this season, Dallas gave away three players vital to their rotation in Brandan Wright, Jae Crowder, and Jameer Nelson plus two draft picks in exchange for Rajon Rondo and forward Dwight Powell.

"In the case of anything, there is risk, but there are risks worth taking," Carlisle said Thursday on ESPN Dallas 103.3 FM. "That trade was a risk worth taking. We all agreed on that. Now, we're at a point where, hey, it's time to move on."

"Everybody owns it," added Carlisle, who had an intense argument with Rondo during a huddle in February that netted Rajon Rondo a one game suspension. "This is all part of a franchise that's accountable. The one thing I love about Mark Cuban is that he is the ultimate example of accountability. When he has made mistakes in the past, he jumps up and admits them and he owns them."

He continued, "look, you can't be in this business as long as he has - and I've been in it longer - and not make mistakes. Mistakes are how you learn."
