Big Bang's Label CEO Defends Racy 'Bae Bae' Video: 'The Members Are In Their Mid-20s, They Should Be Able To Do Things Without Restriction'

Big Bang may be one of K-pop's biggest boy bands, but the five members are full-grown men, entitled to exploring adult themes, according to CEO Yang Hyun Suk of the group's record label, YG Entertainment.

In an interview published earlier this week by the Korean publication Osen, Yang defended the music video for Big Bang's highly anticipated new single "Bae Bae," released Thursday. The "Bae Bae" video received a "R-19" rating, meaning it is only suitable for viewers 19 years old and above and thereby limiting its exposure on the state-run major Korean television networks.

"Now that all the members are in their mid-20s, they should be able to do things without restriction," the South Korean pop music mogul said.

"The directors and band members produced something that [they felt] expressed themselves the best. And the outcome happens to be classified as R-19...we did not produce this just to make the music video provocative and lascivious. It is futuristic and four-dimensional clip and it is filled with freedom."

Produced by Big Bang frontman G-Dragon and YG in-house producer Teddy and released along with the single and video for the song "Loser," the video for "Bae Bae," which features the individual band members in provocative situations with different women, has already received over 1.4 million YouTube views.

Yang also explained the label's unique marketing strategy for Big Bang's new album, the group's first album in over three years.

"Bae Bae" and "Loser" will be unveiled officially through online and offline media on May 1," he said.

"This will mark the beginning of 'M,' which is the first of the 'Made' series. Every month, Big Bang will be releasing a single album featuring more than one song for four months until August. In September, the complete 'Made' album will be unveiled."

In a post Thursday evening to the Korean entertainment website allkpop, a fan referring to themselves as Santokiss was overcome with excitement and swelling with pride.

"I'm so proud of them," Santokiss wrote.

"These are excellent songs. I can't wait for them to promote these songs and I can't wait for the rest of the releases that are yet to come."
