Big K-Pop Acts Expected To Collaborate For 'Unification Song' Marking 70th Anniversary Since Korea's North-South Split

One of the most anticipated Korean songs this year is a "unification song" that will commemorate the 70th anniversary since Korea divided into North and South, reports the Kpop Herald.

A total of 33 A-list celebrities will participate, including Kpop boy group B1A4, so far the only act to be confirmed for the massive collaboration project.

The song and a music video will be released on August 15, the National Liberation Day. Then it will be followed by a series of concerts to be held across Korea and overseas in countries like the United States, China and Japan.

Hit-making composer Kim Hyung-suk with more than 1,000 songs in his writing credits has been tapped to co-direct the project with musical director Kolleen Park.

"My mother's side of the family was displaced by the Korean War," said Kim Hyung-suk at the press conference in Seoul on August 30, reports Kpop Herald.

"I vividly remember my grandparents crying when they watched the unions of separated families on TV. I will compose the song with that sentiment," the composer added.

Lyricist Kim Eana - who is most famous for her work in providing the lyrics for IU's "Good Day" and BEG's "Abracadabra" - will write the lyrics for the unification song that is envisioned to resonate with all generations, including the younger cohorts.

"The sense of longing, and wanting to become one, is something that transcends age. I will write a song that can resonate with people of all generations and different perspectives."

All proceeds from the song and its related activities will go to non-government organizations involved in Korean unification.
