George R.R. Martin Talks Timing Of 'Winds Of Winter' Release Date; Book To Shed Light On Jon Snow's Death?

With "Game of Thrones" season 5 entering spoiler territory for "Winds of Winter," George R. R. Martin knows the importance of timing the release date. Meanwhile, the author's new book might shed light into what happen to Jon Snow.

Warning: possible spoilers ahead for "Game of Thrones" episodes.

In an interview with Entertainment Weekly, George R. R. Martin claimed that he wanted to announce the "Winds of Winter" release date before the "Game of Thrones" season 6 is aired, possibly next year.

"I wish it was out now. Maybe I'm being overly optimistic about how quickly I can finish," he said. But I canceled two convention appearances, I'm turning down a lot more interviews-anything I can do to clear my decks and get this done."

George R.R. Martin also claimed that he should have focused on setting a timetable for the "Winds of Winter" release date, but he "put it aside for six months."

"I was so into it. I was pushing so hard that I was writing very well. I should have just gone on from there, because I was so into it and it was moving so fast then," the author explained.

"But I didn't because I had to switch gears into the editing phase and then the book tour. The iron does cool off, for me especially."

Tech Times noted that fans of the series have been going back on the other novels while waiting for the "Winds of Winter" release date.

They are interested to know what happens now to Jon Snow who was ambushed by his fellow Night's Watch brothers.

"Jon's chapter ends with him falling unconscious from multiple stab wounds. Does that mean the 998th Lord Commander of the Night's Watch is dead, slain by his own men? Hard to say for sure," it said. "Some fans speculate Jon's body may be beyond saving, but that Jon will "warg" his mind into Ghost, his direwolf companion."
