U2 Performs Surprise Number At NYC Subway Platform; Details Of Their 'Tonight Show' Special Segment Revealed!

U2 did a surprise performance in a subway platform in New York City's Grand Central Station. The Huffington Post reported that the band was recording a segment for "The Tonight Show With  Jimmy Fallon," and they started their number wearing wigs and other disguises. Drummer Larry Mullen Jr. event traded his drum set for buckets turned upside down.

After a while, the Irish rock group shed their disguises and sang 1988 hit song "Angel of Harlem." Among those spotted in the crowd were "Tonight Show" host Jimmy Fallon, as well as celebrity chef Mario Batali.

The performance is expected to air on the Friday episode of the talk show. Earlier this week, Fallon was seen with Bono filming a reenactment of the bicycle accident the U2 frontman was involved in last November 2014.

The accident happened in Central Park, New York city. Bono's orthopedic surgeon, Dr. Dean Lorich released a statement saying that the rock star suffered from a broken left scapula and a compound fracture in his left humerus, plus a facial fracture involving the left orbit of his eye.

According to the report, Bono underwent a five hour surgery which involved three metal plates and 18 screws, and he was ordered to have therapy. The singer reportedly had trouble playing the guitar even five months after his accident.

The bike accident caused U2 to postpone their scheduled weeklong residency at "The Tonight Show."

"It looks like we will have to do our 'Tonight Show' residency another time -- we're one man down," U2's statment read. "Bono has injured his arm in a cycling spill in Central Park and requires some surgery to repair it."

"We're sure he'll make a full recovery soon, so we'll be back!" the statement continued. Much thanks to Jimmy Fallon and everyone at the show for their understanding."

The New York subway performance of U2 is expected to air this Friday on "The Tonight Show."
