Demi Lovato Opens Up About Bipolar Disorder; Urges Others To Seek Help Regarding Depression

Demi Lovato opened up about her bipolar disorder, and urged other people to seek help regarding depression.

According to a report from Latin Post, Demi Lovato had bipolar disorder that caused several alarming effects when she was younger.

The former Disney star reportedly went though extreme mood swings, manic episodes, suicidal tendencies, irritability and dependence on antidepressants and other medications.

"Bipolar depression really got my life off track," Demi Lovato admitted.

"But today I'm proud to say I am living proof that someone can live, love, and be well with bipolar disorder when they get the education, support, and treatment they need.

In order to turn a challenge into a victorious feat, Demi Lovato wants to use her bipolar disorder experiences to help others who might be going through depression.

"I want to shine a light on the people out there who, like me, are learning to live well with mental illness by getting the right diagnosis and finding the right treatment plan," she said.

"I want to be the most informed and powerful advocate I can be and to help people find the courage to seek help."

Aside from Demi Lovato educating people about bipolar disorder, the "Skyscraper" singer also hopes she can help young girls who are struggling with substance abuse.

A report from Daily Mail recalled how Demi Lovato was addicted to alcohol and drugs when she was only 19-years-old.

"I couldn't go 30 minutes to an hour without cocaine and I would bring it on airplanes," she revealed in a 2013 tell-all interview.

"I had all the help in the world, but I didn't want it... (then) I hit that moment I was like, 'it's no longer fun. It's no longer I'm young and rebellious and out having fun.'"

"It was 'wow, I'm one of those people. I got to get my act together,'" Demi Lovato added.
