YG Entertainment Hopes iKON And Soon-To-Debut Girl Group Will Win Year End Rookie Awards

YG Entertainment officials admitted to hoping for big things from two yet-to-debut K-pop rookie groups in 2015.

On May 12, representatives from one of South Korea's most prominent entertainment agencies regarding the long-awaited debut of YG Entertainment's new girl group. A new girl group from the company was announced in 2012 but has yet to debut.

"The new YG girl group will debut before September," the unnamed official told Star News.

"CEO Yang Hyun Suk wants perfection from music and has been checking on their progress, so the debut date may change," said the representative. "However, the possibility of their debut this summer is very high."

The representative also told Star News that YG Entertainment would like to see both the new girl group and yet-to-debut male idol group iKON win rookie awards in 2015.

YG Entertainment previously announced that iKON will debut following the comeback of Big Bang, which took place on May 1 with songs "Loser" and "Bae Bae."

In April, YG Entertainment confirmed that the girl group will have five or less members, including trainee Kim Jisoo.

In 2012, YG Entertainment planned to debut a girl group, SuPearls, who appeared on K-Pop Star. In 2013, YG Entertainment announced that SuPearls would not be continuing, except solo artist Lee Hi.

As of 2014, the girl group was allegedly planned to be named Pink Punk, but no name was formally confirmed.

The new girl group will be the first since the debut of a YG Entertainment girl group since the 2009 debut of 2NE1. 2NE1 went on to become one of K-pop's most internationally recognized acts.
