Kim Hyun Joong Enlists In Army Amidst Personal Legal Issues

Top Korean star Kim Hyun Joong enlisted in the Korean army surrounded by well-wishers despite ongoing scandals and legal issues relating to his personal life.

Kim, an actor, singer, and leader of on-hiatus K-pop group SS501, joined the Korean army on May 12 to fulfill his mandatory military service. The news came during a series of affairs and lawsuits relating to Kim's relationship with his ex-girlfriend.

Fans of Kim, known as Henecia, sent the Hallyu star off with signs that read "We are fans only of Kim Hyun Joong," and "Come back safe, we'll meet in 2017."

All fit-to-serve South Korean males spend around two years serving in the Korean military and public works, due to South Korea's ongoing state of war with North Korea.

The star's enlistment came a day after Kim denied reports of his ex-girlfriend's previous miscarriage. The ex-girlfriend, known to the media only by her surname Choi, is pregnant with Kim's child and on May 11 claimed that domestic abuse from Kim led to a previous miscarriage. Choi will reportedly give birth in September.

Choi's legal representatives also claimed that Choi was previously paid nearly $600,000 by Kim's side. Choi previously dropped criminal charges against Kim for domestic violence.

"Kim Hyun Joong′s ex-girlfriend received the settlement money of 600 million won and started a damage lawsuit with the reason of a second pregnancy and is currently making claims through the press," Kim's representative told eNews according to KdramaStars.

Despite the tense situation, fans continue to support Kim.

"I hope that this news is untrue and that he can go to his military service with peace in his mind," wrote Maryam Ghaini on KdramaStars' Facebook page.
