Ron Howard Starts Shooting ‘Inferno’ From ‘Da Vinci Code’ Writer; Third Dan Brown Movie Will Star Tom Hanks

Ron Howard and Tom Hanks are setting out on their third quest for conspiratorial cinema. Howard and Hanks, who teamed up for the first two film adaptations of Robert Langdon's "Da Vinci Code" books will return to shoot "Inferno" the third Robert Langdon movie to star Tom Hanks which is again being directed By Ron Howard.  

"I'm so excited to be starting production on our third Robert Langdon film," Howard said in a statement. "Audiences everywhere have shown a tremendous appetite for the Robert Langdon adventures and Inferno has all of the intrigue and action they could want."

Columbia Pictures' Robert Langdon series has taken in more than $1.2 billion worldwide to date. The film is slated for release on October 14, 2016.

Sony Pictures Entertainment announced that principal photography on the film began in Florence, Italy. This will be the third movie in the billion-dollar Robert Langdon franchise, based on Dan Brown's bestselling series of books.

Academy Award winner Tom Hanks will reprise his role as Robert Langdon. The cast also includes Felicity Jones, Irrfan Khan, Omar Sy, Ben Foster, and Sidse Babett Knudsen.  The movie is being produced by Brian Grazer and Ron Howard.  David Koepp adapted the screenplay from the book by Dan Brown. 

The project's executive producers are David Householter, Dan Brown, Anna Culp, and William M. Connor.

"Inferno continues the Harvard symbologist's adventures on screen: when Robert Langdon wakes up in an Italian hospital with amnesia, he teams up with Sienna Brooks, a doctor he hopes will help him recover his memories and prevent a madman from releasing a global plague connected to Dante's 'Inferno,'" according to the official synopsis.

The film will be shot on location in Florence, Venice, and Budapest.

Howard's production team includes Director of Photography Salvatore Totino, Production Designer Peter Wenham, Editors Dan Hanley and Tom Elkins, and Costume Designer Julian Day.
