Carrie Underwood's 'Something In The Water' Named Top Christian Song At Billboard Music Awards; Former ‘American Idol’ Winner Bringing Christian Music To Mainstream

Carrie Underwood's hit "Something in the Water" was named Top Christian Song at the 2015 Billboard Music Awards. According to a report from Taste of Country, former "American Idol" winner seems to be bringing Christian music to mainstream.

The recognition was given at the recently concluded 2015 Billboard Music Awards held last Sunday.

Aside from winning the award, Carrie Underwood's "Something in the Water" is also the country star's longest-running number one song to date.

It has also become one of the biggest hits of 2015, regardless of its outspoken Christian theme. Carrie Underwood has been known for being a devout Christian ever since she started on "American Idol."

Prior to the 2015 Billboard Music Awards, Carrie Underwood previously explained how "Something in the Water" talks about how baptism and conversion is important for one to change.

"Opened my eyes and told me truth / He said just a little faith and it'll all get better / So I followed that preacher man down to the river and now I'm changed / And now I'm stronger," the former "American Idol" champion said.

"It's really kind of a joyous, uplifting song about changing your life for the better and kind of having that 'a-ha' moment, to waking up and your life being different from that moment forward," Carrie Underwood previously told Taste of Country about "Something in the Water."

The songwriter behind Carrie Underwood's hit song also knew that the song was special right from the start.

"It's very humbling to be part of it. Just reading tweets, and seeing how it's affecting people directly. You're able to really see people's emotions as they're writing on Twitter," Chris DeStefano told Taste of Country.

"It's incredible that it's having such a powerful effect on people. As a songwriter, that is all you can hope for, is to affect people and touch people, and make a difference in their lives, in small ways and big ways."
