Liverpool Sound City Festival To Feature 5 K-Indie Bands Next Weekend

Five Korean indie bands plan to take England by storm next week through a special showcase during the annual Liverpool Sound City Festival.

Held every year since 2013 as a vehicle to promote Korean indie bands to European listeners, this year's showcase will headline Jambinai, Dead Buttons, Thirdstones, PATiENTS and Monoban, reports KPopHerald.

The 2015 showcase, titled "Korean Stage in Liverpool," will be held on Sunday, the third and final day of the Liverpool Sound City festival, organizers from the Korean Creative Content Agency (KCCA) and the Korean Cultural Center in Britan reportedly said.

"The public attention on Korean indie rock bands is very high in Britain, the home of rock music," Park Young-il, chief of the KCCA's European office, reportedly said.

"We'll make efforts to make the 'Korean Stage' a stable platform for local indie musicians wanting to advance into Europe."

Since 2013, 11 bands have participated in the Korean indie band showcase, which has helped the bands make inroads to the European market. For example, the Dead Buttons duo which performed in the 2014 showcase, was able to sign with a British record label and is set to release an album.

Liverpool is a port city in Merseyside, England and is known internationally as a vibrant hub for music. The Guinness World Records even named Liverpool the World Capital City of Pop due to the popularity its native singers such as The Beatles have achieved on the global stage. The world record recognizes the fact that musicians from the city have produced 56 number one singles, more than any other city in the world.
