The latest "Star Wars" news confirms legendary film composer John Williams will return to score the series' seventh installment, "The Force Awakens."

Vanity Fair's Bruce Handy sat down with the multi-Academy Award nominee to discuss his approach on scoring the latest sequel.

"It's all a continuation of an initial set of ideas," Williams explaining his creative process. Starting with a completely new film, a story that I don't know, characters that I haven't met, my whole approach to writing music is completely different."

"That's really the best analogy I can come up with at the moment," he said. "It's like adding paragraphs to a letter rather than beginning the letter again."

The 83 year-old composer was asked about the differences between working with franchise creator George Lucas and "The Force Awakens" director J.J. Abrams.

"It's actually very similar," Williams revealed. He shared that Lucas had always left him "free to write the music." Apparently, Abrams has "done the same thing."

He also went on to praise 48 year-old, saying "he's a fabulous young man who's future is so brilliant and so promising."

On the subject of reviving theme music from the first trilogy.

"There are some scenes where we do make reference to earlier thematic pieces," Williams confirmed. "We haven't done it yet, but we're planning to do it."

As many already know, "Star Wars: The Force Awakens" will star old favorites Mark Hamill, Harrison Ford, and Carrie Fisher reprising their iconic roles.

New series cast members include John Boyega (Attack The Block), Daisy Ridley (Mr. Selfridge), Oscar Isaac (A Most Violent Year), Domnhall Gleeson (Unbroken), Max Von Sydow (Minority Report), Lupita Nyong'O (12 Years A Slave), Adam Driver (Girls), Gwendoline Christie (Game of Thrones), and Andy Serkis (The Lord of The Rings).

"Star Wars: The Force Awakens" will release in theaters on Dec. 18, 2015.
