Would A 'Black Widow' Neflix Series Be Better Than a Feature Film?

Scarlett Johansson's Black Widow, who has starred in a number of Marvel titles including other heroes' solo films could be better off leading a title TV series rather than appear in her own feature film.

Over the past few years, Johansson's character has established herself in the Marvel Cinematic Universe through "Iron Man 2," "Avengers," "Captain America: The Winter Soldier," and "Avengers: Age of Ultron."

Around the time "Ultron" released in theaters, Johansson's co-stars Chris Evans and Jeremy Renner made a joke about Black Widow, describing the heroine as a "slut" and "whore," stemming from Marvel always lending the former S.H.I.E.L.D. agent to support other films.

Both have apologized for their comments. Renner said "I am sorry that this tasteless joke about a fictional character offended anyone," according to The Hollywood Reporter.

Now that the second "Avengers" film has passed, many are wondering if she should start venturing on her own.

A report from Screen Rant believes that Natasha Romanoff could fare better by having her own Black Widow Netflix series.

"The various Marvel movies and tie-ins like ABC's 'Agent Carter' TV series have painted a pretty dark backstory for Natasha Romanoff and the Black Widow training program," their article states.

"Inculcating young girls in murder, espionage and deception through forced conditioning, brutal training, abuse and even sterilization" - these are some of the factors which they believe could build Black Widow's story in a potential TV series.

However, they say that "Black Widow needs a very adult-themed sandbox to play in, and after seeing the adult-themed material and tone of the 'Daredevil' Netflix series, the streaming service seems like a much better home for the Widow to be properly explored in full complexity, with an unflinching eye. "

Johansson will reprise her role as the Black Widow in Marvel's "Captain America: Civil War" on May 6, 2016.
