K-Pop Double Take: MC Sniper And Song Rapper Find Sonic Equilibrium On 'Do Or Die' [AUDIO]

K-Pop Double Take is a weekly review column highlighting recent releases that have yet to receive the attention we feel they deserve.

"Do Or Die" is the new track from MC Sniper featuring Song Rapper, released on May 14 as part of Sniper's new two-track digital single titled "Take The Chance." On the track, Sniper stays true to his name, with razor sharp rhymes as pointed as a long distance rifle.

"Do Or Die" is a hard hitting piece of Southern rap-influenced beats and rhymes, its headbanging backing track countered with melodic R&B vocals, making the song both rugged and smooth.

MC Sniper is a South Korean male rapper and founding member of the underground hip-hop crew Buddha Baby. He has released six studio albums, his most recent full length being "Full Time" in 2012. "Do Or Die" also features Song Rapper, who has in the past also collaborated with the likes of Loco and Crybaby.

The production on "Do Or Die" owes major debts to the hard-hitting strain of Atlanta-centric rap music spearheaded by such producers as Lex Luger that some refer to as "trap." It's half-time 808-fueled beats smash headfirst with menacing synths and orchestra stabs that sound straight out of the Art Of Noise playbook.

Elsewhere on the track, a staccato laser-fried rave synth pull everything forward, giving "Do Or Die" a feel that would be both at home at a rap club or a more EDM-centric venue or festival.

This is a sound birthed in the Southern states, but now part of the global cannon of beats and rhymes.

Speaking of rhymes, Sniper's energetic double-time flow is matched with Song Rapper's melodic hook, giving the track a pop sensibility while still staying true to a sound with roots in both electronic music and Southern Rap.

Between the rapping and the aggressive production, the energy on "Do Or Die" stays high throughout the song.

Although it is in essence a rap track with electronic-leaning production, the sheer vivacity of "Do Or Die" makes one want to jump out of their seat and start a heavy metal style mosh pit in their room. This is the power of the 808! The language of energetic rap and electronic music is one spoken worldwide and that cuts across cultural boundaries.

With summer festival season approaching, I can picture a large group of people jumping around and losing their mind to "Do Or Die," it's power only amplified on a large sound system, in the Great Outdoors.
