K-Pop Crossover: Seoul Rock Outfit YB Band To Open For Smashing Pumpkins Throughout 8-Show Acoustic Tour In June

Starting June 15, South Korean rock band YB will reportedly be featured as the opening act on the upcoming Plainsong tour of the US with superstar rock act Smashing Pumpkins.

The acoustic-themed tour, Smashing Pumpkins first since 1988, will also feature songs from frontman Bill Corgan's side project Zwan, according to the online music publication Pitchfork.

According to YB Band lead singer Yoon Do Hyun, the opportunity is the realization of a lifelong fantasy.

"I dreamt of becoming a singer listening to The Smashing Pumpkins," Yoon told the Korean news website OSEN on Thursday. "It feels like a dream that we will be performing on the same stage as them."

YB will reportedly perform a 30-minute set at all eight shows of the tour, with stops in the states of New York, Pennsylvania, Indiana, Oklahoma, Iowa, Montana and Minnesota, where they plan to perform the English versions of their songs.

Fans of the two bands were overjoyed.

“This is really great news for both YB and the Korean indie scene!” wrote sudiocafebleu on Thursday in a comment posted to the Korean news website Soompi. “It’s about time!”
