A great horned owl survives being hit by an SUV after getting stuck in the front grill last week in Florida.

Sonji Coney Williams was driving down the Florida Turnpike about 60 mph accidently hit something Thursday night and she assumed that the bird had been killed in contact.

"I was driving about 60 miles an hour, he never moved, and so, I said 'Oh, my God, I hit a bird,' and I felt so bad but it was very dark and we didn't pull over," Williams told KXAN.

Unaware the owl had been stuck in the SUV grill she didn't discover the owl until the next day while running errands.

"There was a family that flagged me down and said don't move, don't move, you have something in the grill of your truck," Williams recalled. "I said, 'Yes, what is it?' And they said, 'It's an owl.' And I said, 'An owl?"

After discovering the owl Williams called Florida Fish and Wildlife. An officer arrived on scene to free the bird from the grill and said the owl appeared to be in good shape and didn't suffer any injuries.
