Rubio Reaches For Water: Senator's Sip During State of the Union Rebuttal Stirs Up Twitter [VIDEO]

Call it the sip heard 'round the world, I'm sure someone on Twitter already did.

When Marco Rubio reached for a water bottle in the middle of his rebuttal to President Obama's State of the Union speech last night, the social networking site went crazy.

"Hysterical, Rubio ducking down and reaching off-screen for bottle of water. I thought someone was about to throw a shoe at him," tweeted Greg Mitchell.

"Just imagine if Rubio was allowed to drink water before speaking. Nothing could stop him," wrote Michael Scherer.

Though John Phillips knows when a man reaches his breaking point---he saw that Rubio needed water before the infamous sip even transpired.

"Someone please give Rubio a glass of water," Phillips tweeted. "His nerves are getting the best of him. He's licking his lips more than the 102 year old."

Rubio himself wasn't above joining in the Twitter fun. The republican senator from Florida tweeted a photo of his water bottle from his rebuttal to the president's State of the Union Address early Wednesday morning.

Rubio reached for water at the moment of his speech when he was expressing his disgust with the President Obama's stated agenda.

"In the short time I've been here in Washington, nothing has frustrated me more than false choices like the ones the president laid out tonight," the senator said. (Rubio reaches for tiny Poland Spring water bottle, takes a drink, then sets it back down) "The choice isn't just between big government or big business. What we need is an accountable, efficient and effective government that allows small and new businesses to create middle class jobs."

Twitter user Kathryn Jean Lopez felt that the attention Rubio reaching for his water got is proof that he delivered a good rebuttal to the State of the Union.

"Rubio gave a good speech. If you have to focus on the water, that might be confirmation," Lopez tweeted on Tuesday night.

Yet, the water sipping incident has gained traction, "Rubio reaches for water" was one of the top searches trending online Wednesday morning.

The senator appeared on Fox and Friends Wednesday morning to explain the water incident. Rubio said he would rather reach for his water than not be able to deliver his speech because his mouth was dry.

"When you give a speech you have a podium and the water's right there," he told Fox and Friend's Steve Doocy. "I started looking around [thinking] 'where am I going to get the water from?'"

He then interrupted the Fox interview by taking a sip of water.
