Bruce Jenner Isn’t Kaitlyn Jenner: Why Caitlyn May Have Shied Away From Kardashians’ K Names

Goodbye, Bruce Jenner, and hello, Caitlyn Jenner!

The former Mr. Kris Jenner made her debut on the cover of Vanity Fair, which the publication shared on Twitter Monday.

According to CNN.com, famed photographer Annie Leibovitz shot the first images of Jenner in her Malibu home for the upcoming issue. The photos accompany an article written by "Friday Night Lights" author Buzz Bissinger.

So why is Bruce Jenner now Caitlyn instead of Kaitlyn, and shied away from following the Kardashians' legacy of K-names? We have Kris, Kim, Khloe, Kourtney, Kendall, and Kylie - and now Caitlyn? While her name does fit with the hard K-sound in the beginning, Caitlyn specifically chose to break away from the tradition and spell her name with a C.

Last week, an In Touch story reported Jenner had decided on the name Kaitlyn.

"Though the exact spelling hasn't been confirmed, we can understand if [she] wanted to fit in with the other ladies in [her] family - you know, Kris, Kourtney, Kim, Khloé, Kendall, and Kylie!" the magazine wrote.

So why the C instead of the K?

Jenner's name allows her to be her own person - instead of identifying solely as part of the Kardashian clan, she can have her own name, be her own person, and create her own industry, separate from the Kardashians and their empire.

It's long been known that Jenner has lived under the shadow of her ex-wife Kris and the girls - Kim, Khloe, Kourtney, Kendall, and Kylie - for decades. Anyone who's watched "Keeping Up With the Kardashians" has sensed that Caitlyn was just a background character in the highly-publicized and dramatized lives of the Kardashian-Jenner girls. Esquire did a profile of then-Bruce Jenner, describing how:

"It's not just his glorious past that has disappeared. It's as though all of him, every previous incarnation of him, has been flooded out of view: by the fame of his adopted family... by the glib demands of reality-TV story lines, by dubious plastic surgery and eyebrows plucked to oblivion. Even in his own home, that familiar Spanish castle with the fountain splashing out front, you have to look hard to find those few traces of his existence. ("My mom's house," Kim calls it.) All of the photographs are of the children; all of the memorabilia and props are the product of their successes, not his. There is no red singlet in a frame; his gold medal is nowhere to be found. For the most part, Bruce Jenner, Olympian, has been banished to the garage."

Caitlyn's name gives her a chance to be recognized as part of the family, but also allows her room to become her own woman.
