K-Pop News Weekly Top 3: YG Entertainment Denies 2NE1 Disbandment, EXO And Big Bang Comebacks, Idol Lawsuits

The week of May 31-June 6 was filled with a lot of big names making headlines, ranging from comebacks, worries over the future of groups, and news about major court cases.

2NE1 Disbandment Rumors Denied By YG Entertainment

The Korean entertainment agency YG Entertainment responded to reports of its girl group 2NE1 disbanding with a denial. The girl group has plans to release a new song this year, a YG Entertainment rep revealed to the media while emphasizing the company's outrage over the rumors. The four members of 2NE1 have either been pursuing solo activities or taking a hiatus from the Korean entertainment industry since the second half of 2014.

Leader CL is preparing for her debut into the American music market, while member Dara has been undertaking several acting jobs. Minzy and Bom, the other two members of 2NE1, have not undertaken any personal schedules in 2015.

Big Bang Takes Over Korean Music Charts As EXO Breaks Physical Album Records

Popular idol groups Big Bang, of YG Entertainment, and SM Entertainment's EXO each released music the first week of June. Big Bang released the dual singles "Bang Bang Bang" and "We Like 2 Party" while EXO released the repackage album, "Love Me Right." The two comebacks were well received, and comparisons were made between the two groups.

Songs by both groups appeared on Korean music charts shortly after release. Big Bang took over the top spots on Korean music charts, while EXO lagged behind a little bit. However, EXO became the fastest million seller K-pop male act ever, selling over one million physical copies of the album "EXODUS," after the release of the "EXODUS" repackage, "Love Me Right."

Updates On Legal Cases Relating To Members of K-Pop Idol Groups

The legal battle between former EXO members Kris (Wu Yi Fan) and Luhan against SM Entertainment took a turn when SM Entertainment announced that it rejected mediation by the Seoul courts in the case. However, it was revealed that the two former EXO members did not protest the mediation. No details were revealed by either side regarding what was set forward by the court.

Kim Hyun Joong, a popular actor-singer and the leader of on-hiatus K-pop group SS501, was represented in court by his parents and legal representatives due to currently fulfilling his military service in the Korean army. Kim's side prepared a case against the idol's former girlfriend, known to the media by her surname Choi. Kim's father revealed to reporters that Choi's family allegedly did not believe her claims of pregnancy. Both sides are submitting evidence and will appear in court later in June.
