BTS Cancel 2nd Anniversary Fan Meeting In Response To MERS

BTS has become the next group to suffer cancellations in response to the MERS (Middle East Respiratory Syndrome) scare.

On June 9 Big Hit Entertainment announced that BTS's fan meeting scheduled for June 13 has been cancelled. The fan meeting was planned as the highlight of the group's second debut anniversary celebrations. It also marked the end of their two week "BTS FESTA," featuring other small events like video and photo releases.

"The health and safety of the fans is our highest priority so we made the decision," Big Hit stated according to News1.

BTS is not the only group choosing to cancel events in response to the MERS outbreak. Last week, Black Music Stage cancelled their June 5 and 6 shows because of potential health risks. This cancellation affected artists Mad Clown, Lobo, DonMills, ELO, Gray and Junggigo who were scheduled to perform at those shows. Additionally, MBC's Show Music Core required audience members wear masks in order to gain entry into the program.

As of June 9, the number of confirmed cases of MERS increased to 95 and seven people have died from the virus. Additionally, more than 2,800 people are still in quarantine.

Details about rescheduling the BTS fan meet have yet to be announced.
