Philippe Parreno’s ‘H{N)Y P N(Y}OSIS’ Opens At The Park Avenue Armory; NYC Hypnotist Elena Beloff Mesmerizes 100 People For Parreno's Biggest U.S. Art Installation [EXCLUSIVE]

Philippe Parreno opened his work "H{N)Y P N(Y}OSIS" at the New York City's Park Avenue Armory on June 11. "H{N)Y P N(Y}OSIS" is Parreno's largest installation in the United States to date.

At the center of the exhibit is "The Crowd," a film showing people looking mesmerized in a state of awe. All of them had been hypnotized by New York City hypnotist Elena Beloff, "The Crowd" was filmed in January, 2015.

"Now I can tell you... what project I was hypnotizing these people for back in January of 2015," Beloff posted to her Facebook page.

"Check out Park Avenue Armory installation by Philippe Parreno from June 11th to August 2nd, part of the show called The Crowd, shot by legendary cinematographer Darius Khondji.

Beloff does not appear on camera in "The Crowd."

"I hypnotized people on the side, away from the camera", Beloff told KpopStarz.,

"The architecture becomes semi-conscious," said Philippe Parreno at a press conference.

The new art installation at the Park Avenue Armory spans genres, from sci-fi to fantasy, children's adventure to horror.

"H{N)Y P N(Y}OSIS" will be the first time American audiences a world of postmodern French philosophy and creepy science fiction.

Tom Eccles, the executive director of Bard College's Center for Curatorial Studies and a consulting curator for the Armory project, called Parreno is "one of the most important, if not the most important, artist of his generation."

"He isn't the kind of artist who wants to put something on the wall," Eccles said.

"He wants to take down the wall and put up his own wall. There's almost a kind of wanton provocation to push art institutions as far as they can go."

French artist Philippe Parreno reportedly told the computer scientist Jaron Lanier about a fantasy he had as a youth where he could beam of projector light through his mouth, casting thoughts whatever was in front of him.

"My imagination would just be easy and available," he said.
