‘Batman V Superman’ Star Henry Cavill Insists He’s No Tom Cruise In ‘The Man From U.N.C.L.E.;’ Says He’s Not Replacing Actor

"Batman V Superman: Dawn of Justice" star Henry Cavill dismissed the reports comparing him to Tom Cruise, whom he replaced for "The Man from U.N.C.L.E."

In an interview with Belfast Telegraph, he said that it would be wrong to say he's replacing Tom Cruise in the film.

"Tom would clearly have been playing a very different character to mine, albeit of the same name," the "Batman V Superman" star said. "It's not that I was replacing Tom Cruise; it's that the dynamic of the story changed and I happened to fit that better."

Tom Cruise was originally slated to play the lead in "The Man from U.N.C.L.E." but dropped out because he was filming "Mission Impossible 5." That's when "Batman V Superman" actor Henry Cavill stepped in.

"Set against the backdrop of the early 1960s, at the height of the Cold War, 'The Man from U.N.C.L.E.' centers on CIA agent Solo and KGB agent Kuryakin," the synopsis reads. "Forced to put aside longstanding hostilities, the two team up on a joint mission to stop a mysterious international criminal organization, which is bent on destabilizing the fragile balance of power through the proliferation of nuclear weapons and technology."

"The duo's only lead is the daughter of a vanished German scientist, who is the key to infiltrating the criminal organization, and they must race against time to find him and prevent a worldwide catastrophe."

Aside from "Batman V Superman" actor Henry Cavill, the Guy Ritchie film also stars Armie Hammer, Alicia Vikander, Elizabeth Debicki, Jared Harris and Hugh Grant.

Armie Hammer, meanwhile, won't have Tom Cruise to be compared to, but he did watched the original 60s TV show to study his character, agent Illya Kuryakin.

"It was very episodic and each week was its own story. There was nothing that carried on, so it got the point where it was: 'How many times can you watch these guys save the world?' I think that was the ultimate downfall of the show. Then it started to get really loosey-goosey and silly," he said.
