Sherlock Season 4 News: ‘Dr. Who’ And ‘Sherlock’ Director Steven Moffat Talks Upcoming ‘Sherlock’ Season: ‘Our Plan Is Devastating’; Is There A ‘Sir Steven’ In Moffat’s Future?

Sherlock Season 4 News Update: "Doctor Who" and "Sherlock" executive producer Steven Moffat was awarded Britain's OBE, the Order of the British Empire. The award may one day mean that the producer may one day be called "Sir Steven," after all, Mick Jagger of the Rollling Stones got an OBE and Sir Paul McCartney and his fellow Beatles were awarded the MBE.

"I was thrilled ... I think the lovely thing about it is that a writer gets [awarded] at all ... I think it gives hope and comfort to the shy kid getting in the back of the class ... It is great for writing," Moffat told the BBC.

Sherlock Creator and Executive Producer Steven Moffat talked with Entertainment Weekly about the upcoming series and Christmas Special planned for Sherlock Season 4.

"The special is its own thing. We wouldn't have done the story we're doing, and the way we're doing it, if we didn't have this special. It's not part of the run of three episodes," Moffat told EW.

"So we had this to do it - as we could hardly conceal - it's Victorian. [Co-creator Mark Gatiss] and me, we wanted to do this, but it had to be a special, it had to be separate entity on its own. It's kind of in its own little bubble."

"And I do think our plan is devastating. We've practically reduced our cast to tears telling them the plan ... we're probably more excited that we've ever been about Sherlock. We're certainly going to put them through the mill. It's going to be more of an emotional upheaval. Hopefully enjoyable and fun, all the things Sherlock must always be. It will be tough at times. Maybe that's the word? A tougher series," Moffat continued.

Moffat admitted that there is no fixed cast for the upcoming season but rumors say there may be world-famous faces on the series, even if Sherlock doesn't have the budget.

"But as Mark always says, it's better to be a star-maker," Moffat told EW. "We found all these people, Benedict, Scott, Lara Pulver. These people launched careers on the basis of doing the show."

"It's tough because we got Benedict and Martin-they're probably the two biggest British film stars. If you pay extra money to cast somebody famous, are they actually going to provide you with one single extra viewer?" he told EW.

Sherlock Season 4 will return to BBC One in 2017.  Sherlock Season 4 production is expected to start in the spring of 2016.

The new season of Sherlock promises to leave fans 'desperate' for Season 5. Benedict Cumberbatch and Martin Freeman will both return as Sherlock and Watson. According to executive producer Steven Moffat Sherlock Season 4 will premiere in January 2017.

The Sherlock Christmas episode is expected to close chapter on Sherlock's arch-enemy Moriarty.

The Sherlock team revealed that season 4 will try to top the previous season.
