Verizon HTC Windows Phone 8X Firmware Update; New Software Fixes Bugs, Features Messaging Enhancements And Improved Wi-Fi, Bluetooth

Verizon Wireless is pushing out a new firmware and Portico update for the Windows Phone 8X by HTC for all users.

The new software update will appear on devices as firmware version 1532.20.20011.605 and will bring the radio on the device up to version 0.17.50.1218, according to an official document on the Verizon web site.

The Portico update, or Windows Phone 8 10211, fixes the problem with random freezes and resets by improving device and OS stability.

The update also includes several new features like better Wi-Fi and Bluetooth performance on the HTC Windows Phone 8X, in addition to giving users a new option to set MP3 files as ringtones.

An addition to the messaging service now allows users to edit an MMS while forwarding a message and create SMS drafts.

Other changes include Increased flexibility to manage users' browser history, an option to turn off image-downloads in Internet Explorer, and an incremental security feature that allows users to restrict calls to a limited list of numbers.

Users will also be able to auto-retry with connectivity, multi-select recipients for a message and ignore calls with an SMS reply.

HTC Windows Phone 8X users interested in installing the update can go to Settings > Phone Update > Check for Updates to see if the update is available.

Before proceeding with the update, 8X owners should charge the phone's battery to at least 40 percent and connect to a Wi-Fi network, especially if they are outside the Verizon coverage area. Given those conditions, the update is expected to take 20 to 30 minutes.

Users can learn more about updating their HTC Windows 8X devices on Verizon's web site.
