The End Of NBC's Brian Williams? Williams Says Sorry For Lying As He’s Removed From Anchoring ‘Nightly News’

Brian Williams is back on NBC. But although Brian Williams is starting again after a four-month suspension, he would not be sitting anymore as NBC's "Nightly News" anchor.

In an article on CNN Money, NBC's Brian Williams reportedly did an "apology tour" in New York and Washington after the whole debacle of his Iraq War report. CNN said he personally apologized to his former colleagues on "Nightly News" and also went to Washington DC to extend his sorry.

In a statement released by NBC and quoted on Variety, Brian Williams admitted his faults.

"I'm sorry," NBC's Brian Williams said. "I said things that weren't true."

"I let down my NBC colleagues and our viewers, and I'm determined to earn back their trust," Williams added.

He also showed his support to Lester Holt who will be taking over "Nightly News" while he will be delegated to MSNBC's breaking news and special reports.

"I will greatly miss working with the team on 'Nightly News,' but I know the broadcast will be in excellent hands with Lester Holt as anchor," he started.

"I will support him 100% as he has always supported me," he continued. "I am grateful for the chance to return to covering the news. My new role will allow me to focus on important issues and events in our country and around the world, and I look forward to it."

NBC News and MSNBC Chairman Andrew Lack is confident with Holt anchoring "Nightly News."

"He's an exceptional anchor who goes straight to the heart of every story and is always able to find its most direct connection to the everyday lives of our audience," Lack said in a release posted on NBC Universal. "In many ways, television news stands at a crossroads, and Lester is the perfect person to meet the moment."

Holt, meanwhile, was grateful for the opportunity.

"This is an enormous honor," Holt explained.

"I'm very proud and grateful to be part of such an unflappable and dedicated team of professionals as we move forward together," he added.

Before Holt took over, NBC's Brian Williams anchored 'Nightly News" since 2004. But last February, he was suspended when he was exposed at the start of the year for misrepresenting and fabricating his story on his Iraq War coverage.
