Smithfield Sausage Recalled 38,000 Pounds in 12 States [VIDEO]

Smithfield Packing Company is recalling about 38,000 pounds of pork sausage across 12 states, the United States Department of Agriculture's Food Safety and Inspection Service announced Thursday.

The Virginia company issues a voluntarily recall of the sausage, Gwaltney Mild Pork Sausage Roll, after it was determined that it may contain small pieces of plastic, likely from the worker's gloves.

The sausage produced on January 11 were distributed in 11 states and the District of Columbia; Alabama, Florida, Georgia, Louisiana, Maine, Maryland, North Carolina, New Jersey, New York, Pennsylvania and Texas.

"We received two notifications from customers regarding the presence of glove-like particles in the sausage product. While there have been no reports of injury associated with this material, as a precautionary measure Gwaltney immediately reported it to the USDA and has issued a voluntary recall," said Dennis Pittman, director of corporate communications.

The recalled sausage products are 1-pound packages of the sausage roll with use-by date of March 12, 2013. Cases containing the affected products have case code of 78533109741 are also being recalled.

They bear the establishment number Est. 221-A inside the U.S. Department of Agriculture mark of inspection.

The customers that purchased these products are urged not to use them but to return them to the place of purchase for a full refund. For additional information regarding the recall should call 877-933-4625.
