Mira Sorvino Cast In CBS Sitcom; Oscar Winner To Make First Small Screen Appearance On Jim Gaffigan Comedy Pilot

Mira Sorvino was cast in a new CBS comedy pilot, and will soon be making her small screen debut.

Sorvino was previously cast in movie blockbusters like Romy and Michelle's High School Reunion. Sorvino also won an Oscar for her role in the cast of Mighty Aphrodite.

Jim Gaffigan, the well-known comedian and creator of the new sitcom, cast Mira Sorvino for his pilot.

Sorvino will play Gaffigan's on-screen wife. The sitcom will feature a happily married New York City couple that has five children.

Interestingly, Gaffigan also has five children in real life.

The yet-unnamed sitcom starring Sorvino will utilize a single camera in filming the pilot.

Jim Gaffigan will be writing and executive producing the comedy with Peter Tolan, the creator of hit cable drama "Rescue Me".

Michael Wimer and Alex Murray are also executive producing Sorvino's new show.

Mira Sorvino was previously cast in the TNT drama "Trooper" from Jerry Bruckheimer. Sorvino was meant to star in the show, a procedural drama about a recently divorced state trooper and mother of three.

Sorvino seemed excited about starring in her first television role, which would have been "Trooper". Unfortunately, the drama never made it to air.

More optimism surrounds Sorvino's new plot with Gaffigan. Deadline reported that the new show interested multiple networks, but CBS won by issuing a pilot commitment on the show.

The pilot commitment mandated that unless the network airs at least the pilot of the new show, the network will be forced to pay a penalty.

Mira Sorvino will finally make it to the TV screen as part of Gaffigan's new cast.
