Adolf Hitler On Indian Ballot For Election; Hitler Runs Against Frankenstein, Romeo, Kennedy

The name Adolf Hitler appeared on an Indian ballot during an election in the northeast Indian state of Meghalaya.

The Indian state has a fascination with interesting and controversial names. Other legends that made appearances with Adolph Hitler on the Indian ballot were Frankenstein Momin, Billykid Sangma, Field Marshal Mawphniang, and Romeo Rani.

Some names on the ballots closely resemble those of American presidents, such as Kenedy Marak, Kennedy Cornelius Khyriem and Jhim Carter Sangma.

Adolf Lu Hitler has won three elections to the state assembly in the Indian state. The 54-year-old father of three who won those elections was named after the Nazi dictator.

His father, who worked for the British army and became fascinated with Britain's historic enemy, gave Adolf Lu Hitler the dictator's name.

Hitler told The Associated Press, "I am aware that at one point of time Adolf Hitler was the most hated person on Earth for the genocide of the Jews. But my father added 'Lu' in between, naming me Adolph Lu Hitler, and that's why I am different."

Fortunately, Adolph Lu Hitler's name hasn't stopped him from obtaining visas and travelling the world.

He commented, "I never had problems obtaining a visa but I was asked many times during immigration as to why I should have such a name. I told the immigration staff I possibly didn't have a role in my naming."

Famous names of well-known leaders aren't as taboo in the small Indian state as they are elsewhere in the world.

Agence France-Presse explained that the region's unusual names are a result of close historical links with Britain. The publication stated, "in colonial times, missionaries and soldiers would visit the hilly state's capital Shillong, known as the 'Scotland of the East' to escape the overwhelming heat of the country, and its residents began naming their children with random English words as a nod to that influence.

Sanjeep Katoky, a history professor at the Indian Institute of Management in Shillong, told AFP, "Often they don't know the background of the names. They get attracted to these names for their quest of modernity."
