Award-winning Film Composer James Horner Dies In Plane Crash; Full Details Released!

A single engine plane believed to be have been flown by award-winning composer James Horner figured in a plane crash on Monday in Southern California.

"A single-engine S312 Tucano MK1 crashed under unknown circumstances near Cuyama around 9:30 a.m.," the Federal Aviation Administration said in a statement as quoted by the Washington Post.

"The pilot was killed," the statement also said.

It was not immediately identified though if it was indeed James Horner that died in the plane crash.

"It was James's plane that went down but nothing has been confirmed," Horner's lawyer Jay Cooper admitted.

"He was an experienced pilot and he flew all the time," he added.

But on a report on The Hollywood Reporter, a woman identified as James Horner's assistant confirmed his death.

"A great tragedy has struck my family today, and I will not be around for a while," Sylvia Patrycja posted on Facebook as quoted by The Hollywood Reporter.

"We have lost an amazing person with a huge heart, and unbelievable talent," she described of James Horner after news of the plane crash circulated.

Message of love and support poured for James Horner's family after news of the plane crash broke. His family though has yet to release a statement on the incident.

In a message quoted by The Guardian, singer Celine Dion who sang the words of "Titanic's" "My Heart Will Go On" that Horner wrote music for and won him two Oscars said she will miss the composer.

"Rene and I are deeply saddened by the tragic death of James Horner," Dion said in a statement. "We offer his family and friends our deepest sympathy."

Russell Crowe, Rita Wilson, Ron Howard, Evan Rachel Wood, Seth McFarlane and Rob Lowe have also extended their condolences as reported by The Guardian.

Aside from "Titanic," Horner was credited for composing music for more than 75 films according to CNN. This includes music for "Star Trek II: The Wrath of Khan," "An American Tail," "Glory," "Aliens" and "Avatar."

James Horner's feared plane crash death left behind a wife and two daughters, according to BBC. He was 61.
